Back in the spring, we brought you news of the American Diabetes Association’s Tour de Cure and its Red Riders, participants with diabetes who wear red jerseys. The ADA also sponsors a series of walks called “Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes.” These noncompetitive events let you choose how far and how quickly to walk, with at least one walking event scheduled for each US state. Those who have diabetes will be given red t-shirts, hence the name Red Strider. Walking is a popular and effective form of exercise that can help improve diabetes self-management.
While most of the events will take place in the fall, those who register may wish to do so early, so as to leave time for fund-raising and other preparations. If you are unable to walk in the event, you can still donate and volunteer. To find out more, or to register for the walk closest to you, you can visit the Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes homepage.
