ISF is the leading public provider of funds for basic science research in Israel, and its partnership with JDRF will ensure that $6 million is dedicated to cure-advancing research on type 1 diabetes in Israel over the next five years. The two groups “are seeking applications from Israeli researchers that propose collaborative, goal-oriented research projects” in areas such as beta cell replacement and immunotherapies.
According to JDRF, it decided to collaborate with ISF because of the strong type 1 diabetes research infrastructure already established in Israel. The group already supports several projects in the country, including at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and Bar Ilan University.
“JDRF-funded researchers in Israel stand at the vanguard of the global T1D research community,” says JDRF assistant vice president of research Andrew Rakeman, PhD, in the press release. “By partnering with the Israel Science Foundation, JDRF is strengthening its commitment to funding cutting-edge global projects that will drive progress in T1D research and clinical care.”
