Should I lower my protein intake if I have kidney disease?

Text Size:

According to the National Kidney Foundation, “If you have kidney disease, you may need to watch how much protein you eat. Having too much protein can cause waste to build up in your blood. Your kidneys may not be able to remove all the extra waste.” Ask your doctor whether you should limit your protein intake for this reason, and if so, plan out your meals with a dietitian.
