I have cardiovascular disease. Should I be taking cholesterol-lowering medicine?

According to guidelines issued in 2016 by the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force, people ages 40–75 who have one or more risk factors — including diabetes — that put them at a 10 percent or greater risk of having a heart attack or stroke within the next 10 years should be on cholesterol-lowering statins.
