Spicy Broiled Bananas

Like it hot? This dish is quick, easy and has quite a kick! Cooked bananas provide a smooth and creamy base for the zesty topping of onions, lime juice, brown sugar and fiery jalapeños.



  • 2 bananas
  • Butter-flavored cooking spray
  • 4 teaspoons minced onion
  • 1 tablespoon lime juice
  • 2 teaspoons packed brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons minced jalapeño pepper*


Cut bananas lengthwise into halves, leaving peels on banana halves. Spray cut sides of bananas with cooking spray. Combine onion, lime juice, sugar, and jalapeño in small bowl; mix well. Sprinkle cut side of bananas with onion mixture.

Place bananas on rack of broiler pan. Place pan 4 inches from heat. Broil 2 to 3 minutes or until topping bubbles and bananas are heated through.

*Note. Jalapeño peppers can sting and irritate the skin, so wear rubber gloves when handling peppers and do not touch your eyes.

Yield: 4 servings.

Serving size: 2 tablespoons.
