Standard Drink Size Chart


Beer, wine, and distilled spirits are commonly offered at barbecue and cookout venues (standard sizes are listed below). Although these choices differ in size, each contains approximately the same amount of alcohol.

Regular beer* 12 ounces About 5% alcohol
Distilled spirits (80-proof) 1.5 fluid ounces 40% alcohol
Table wine* 5 ounces About 12% alcohol

*The percent of pure alcohol is listed here as alcohol by volume varies by beverage; be sure to check the label or the manufacturer’s website to find the alcohol content of a specific beverage.
