Amazon Pharmacy announced on Tuesday that it is introducing automatic coupons that will instantly provide savings on over 15 insulin products and other diabetes care supplies. Covered items will include insulin vials, insulin pens, pumps, and continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) from manufacturers such as Novo Nordisk, Eli Lilly, Sanofi, Dexcom, and Insulet.
According to Amazon, shoppers will no longer have to search for and manually enter coupons to lower their costs. For eligible customers, many insulin brands will be available at as low as $35 a month. “Whether eligible customers are insured, underinsured, or uninsured, they’ll be able to easily view the price of each product directly on Amazon and never have to worry about missing potential savings,” the company noted in a press release.

Roughly 85% of manufacturer coupons go unused, according to the 2020 Prescription Drug Coupon Study. And a report released last month from Senators Elizabeth Warren, Raphael Warnock, and Richard Blumenthal indicated that despite lowered list prices on certain types of insulin, some patients are still being quoted the original prices at pharmacies or not being told about less-expensive options.
