Joslin Launches Free Online Diabetes Videos

Just in time for American Diabetes Month, Joslin Diabetes Center has added a series of six free, short videos to its Web site. The series, entitled Staying Healthy with Diabetes, features expert physicians from Joslin Clinic and presents information about six important medical tests that people with diabetes should have done regularly to keep tabs on their health. These tests are the HbA1c test (or A1C test, which indicates blood glucose control over time), blood pressure test, eye exam, foot exam, kidney function test, and lipid profile (which includes cholesterol and triglycerides). I’ve recently been intrigued with all of the new gadgets and advancements available for treating diabetes, but there seems to be a little something that’s been left out. Flu Shot Especially Important for People with Cardiovascular Disease

Believe it or not, flu season is approaching, and it’s not too early to start thinking about getting your annual vaccination. The American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology are advising all people with cardiovascular disease to get a flu shot because their risk of dying from influenza (“the flu”) is higher than that of any other group. Cardiovascular disease (which includes heart disease and stroke) is the most common long-term complication of diabetes.
