What We’re Reading: Help Raise Funds and Set a World Record!

If you’ve been thinking about starting an exercise program, this weekend may be your chance. On Saturday, November 7, Gold’s Gym locations around the world will be hosting the first-ever Burn-a-Thon charity event to raise funds and awareness for people with diabetes and to highlight the fundamental role that physical activity plays in diabetes management and prevention.

In partnership with the American Diabetes Association (ADA), Gold’s Gym is inviting members and nonmembers alike to take a spin on their cardio equipment to help achieve the world-record-setting goal of burning 180 million calories in one day. The event runs all day, and fitness professionals will be on hand to demonstrate the exercise equipment. Participants will set their own calorie-burning goal and choose their preferred aerobic activity.

As always, it’s a good idea to check with your health-care provider before starting an exercise program. And remember to not to overdo it if you haven’t been physically active in a while — doing too much right off the bat leads a lot of people to quit exercising altogether. But, on an encouraging note, every calorie burned counts, both for the exerciser and for the Burn-a-Thon.
