Insulet — the makers of the OmniPod insulin pump — has created the first earth-friendly pod recycling and disposal program. The Eco-Pod program allows pump users to return up to 50 used pods at a time for the company to either break down and recycle or properly dispose of as hazardous waste. The process focuses on reclaiming and recycling metal components like batteries while non-recyclable elements are ground down to reduce their impact on landfills. At this time, the program is only for those living in the United States.
