What We’re Reading: Diabetes Alert Day

Text Size:

On March 22 — American Diabetes Alert Day — the American Diabetes Association is launching a new online tool to help people assess their diabetes risk. By asking some simple questions, the Diabetes Risk Test shows people if they are at high, moderate, or low risk for developing the condition.

According to Ashley Reynolds, speaking on behalf of the ADA, “Type 2 diabetes has an image problem. There’s a stereotype that it only affects people who make poor lifestyle choices. But, in fact, factors such as age, ethnicity, pregnancy and family history also play a role.” Hopefully this easy-to-use, simple test will help raise better awareness on Diabetes Alert Day and provide a useful and important tool for those who are concerned about their health.

This initiative is part of the ADA’s wider goal, called “Join the Million Challenge.” The ADA is hoping to have one million people take their online test between March 22 and April 22. This easily accessible test will be launched on the ADA’s Facebook page as well as the Web site stopdiabetes.diabetes.org.
