If you’re an adult with Type 1 diabetes who loves the great outdoors, you may be interested in the upcoming USA SoCal Slipstream Weekend, being hosted by the nonprofit Canadian diabetes education group Connected in Motion.
Founded in 2008 by people with Type 1 diabetes, Connected in Motion uses outdoor adventure activities to connect those who are living with the condition. As part of that mission, the group will be holding its second U.S.-based Slipstream weekend, an event “jam-packed full of outdoor adventure, engaging workshops, great food, and incredible people,” from Friday, October 28 to Sunday, October 30, in Southern California on Catalina Island.
The event, for those 21 and older, will feature activities such as canoeing, kayaking, hiking, snorkeling, and swimming, as well as educational sessions, peer-led breakout sessions, team-building activities, and more.
Registration for the weekend costs $375 and includes shared accommodations, meals and snacks, ferry transportation from San Pedro to Catalina Island, outdoor activities, and educational sessions. For more information about the event, and to register, visit the Connected in Motion website.
