This September, the group “Taking Charge of Your Diabetes” will be hosting conferences in both Missoula, Montana, and Des Moines, Iowa.
Taking Control of Your Diabetes (TCOYD) is a nonprofit organization founded by endocrinologist Steven Edelman, who himself has Type 1 diabetes, in 1995 to “educate and motivate people with diabetes to take a more active role in their condition.” The group has a number of initiatives, including its online reality series Extreme Diabetes Makeover, its cable-based television series featuring Dr. Edelman, and its national conferences and health fairs.
These conventions feature lectures from well-known speakers, health screenings, exhibits from diabetes-related companies and organizations, a healthful banquet lunch, and the opportunity to speak with diabetes health-care specialists.
The conferences have both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes programs. The Type 1 program includes presentations on topics such as “CGM Devices: Revolutionizing Diabetes Care,” “What Else You Got? Other Medications for Type 1 Besides Insulin,” and “Envisioning a World Without Type 1 Diabetes: Progress in Preventing, Reversing, and Treating the Disease.” The Type 2 program includes presentations on topics including “An Explosion of Type 2 Treatment Options,” “Meter Readings: High, Low…Now What?” and “Managing Your Diabetes Care From Head to Toe: Thyroid, Heart, Kidneys, and Feet.”
The Missoula conference will be taking place on Saturday, September 6, from 9 AM to 5 PM at the Hilton Garden Inn Missoula. The registration fee for this conference is $25 per person ($20 per person for two or more registering together) through 12 PM PST on September 3. (Registrations sent through the mail must be postmarked by Friday, August 29, to qualify for the early-bird registration fee.) The onsite registration fee is $30 per person. The registration fee for this conference is $25 per person ($20 per person for two or more registering together) through 12 PM PST on September 24. (Registrations sent through the mail must be postmarked by Friday, September 19, to qualify for the early-bird registration fee.) The onsite registration fee is $30 per person.
