If you’re using a continuous glucose monitor (CGM), have you found that the vibrating alarms are not enough to wake you up during the night? If so, then you might be interested in a novel solution noted on Kerri Morrone Sparling’s blog, Six Until Me.

Speaking with “Diabetes Dad” Tom Karlya, Kerri mentioned that she had been placing her CGM in a glass on her bedside table to ensure the vibrations from the alarm would be loud enough for her to hear. His suggestion? Try the iSeismometer app. Created to alert people to earthquakes, the app produces an extremely loud alarm at the first hint of a vibration. If your iPhone (or other compatible device) is on the nightstand along with your CGM, the app will detect any vibrations and respond accordingly.

iSeisometer is free and can be downloaded in the App Store. Just be sure to switch off the option to automatically “Report an Earthquake” prior to using the app with your CGM!
