The company Tyco Healthcare Group (Covidien) is recalling one lot of ReliOn insulin syringes, so if you use this brand, you should check your package(s) to see if yours are affected.
Here are the details about the product being recalled:
Name: ReliOn Insulin Syringes, 31 gauge, 1cc (100 syringes per box)
Lot number: 813900 (the lot number is found on the back panel of the carton or on the white paper backing of each syringe’s “peel-pack”)
Product identification number: 38396-0403-02 (found on the top panel, upper right-hand corner of the syringe box)
The syringes were sold at Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club between August 1 and October 8, 2008. About 4,710 boxes were distributed.
The syringes are being recalled because they may have been mislabeled with inaccurate dose increments, which could lead people to give themselves the wrong dose of insulin. Some syringes made for use with U-40 insulin were packaged with syringes made for U-100 insulin (U-100 insulin has 2.5 times the concentration of active insulin per milliliter as U-40).
