Dexcom G6: One Teen’s Experience

For fourteen-year-old student Ava Tooke, the Dexcom G6 CGM (continuous glucose monitor[1]) gives her the freedom to continue her passion of dancing while managing her type 1 diabetes[2], according to Montana news station 8 KPAX[3].

Ava spends five days a week at the dance studio practicing tap, ballet and modern contemporary dance. When she was diagnosed with diabetes last year, slowing down wasn’t an option, and the Dexcom G6 gave her the freedom to keep pursuing her passion.

The Dexcom G6 is a device used to measure glucose levels continuously. Every five minutes, readings are sent via Bluetooth to Ava’s phone. The Dexcom G6 has replaced traditional fingerstick monitoring for Ava.

What’s more, she is not managing her diabetes alone. The Dexcom G6 can send alerts to her teachers and family members, so that even when Ava is busy on the dance floor, they can monitor her glucose levels without having to pull her aside.

Living with diabetes has become a lot easier with devices that provide real-time reports. The Dexcom G6 allows teens like Ava to continue to live the life they were living before diagnosis.
