Better Manage Your Diabetes With Joslin's DO IT Program

If you’re looking to tune up your diabetes management program for better control under the guidance of experts, you’ll want to sign up for the DO IT (Diabetes Outpatient Intensive Treatment) Program at the world-renowned Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston.

This four-consecutive-day program is for people 18 and over with either Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes. Combining both individual attention and small-group education sessions, the program “is results-oriented and utilizes the latest diabetes research and expertise to improve your control and put you on track for a healthier tomorrow.”

Each participant will have a team consisting of nurse educators and an endocrinologist, exercise physiologist, registered dietitian, and social worker. After meeting with these experts one-on-one and having lab work, a physical exam, and a retinal image taken, everyone in the program will receive a personalized management plan. The specialists will review various aspects of diabetes control, including interpreting blood sugar readings, treating lows, eating out, meeting nutritional goals, and reducing stress. At the conclusion of the program, the results of the lab work, medical findings, and changes to the diabetes management plan will be provided to each person’s primary-care practitioner.

Those who go through the DO IT program experience an average HbA1c reduction of nearly 1.5%, a 50% reduction in emergency room visits and hospitalizations the first year, and a 43% decrease in time lost from work or school the first year.

The next DO It Program begins on Monday, March 13, 2017, and will be led by Joslin’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Robert Gabbay. Financial aid is available for those in need.
