Cruise Checklist

Planning ahead will allow you to kick back and relax while you’re on your cruise. Here are some things to think about before you go:

  • Find out all you can about the ship — what amenities it offers, onboard activities, opportunities for exercise, eating options, etc. Be sure it sounds like an experience you’d enjoy before sending in a deposit.
  • Speak to your travel agent or a contact person at the cruise line about your special needs, including dietary preferences.
  • Consider purchasing travel insurance that includes coverage for medical care needed while traveling.
  • Make a packing list, keeping in mind all of the activities you might like to try while afloat or at ports of call. (Be sure to include extra shoes on your list.)
  • Plan to bring extra diabetes supplies. Stock up now so you aren’t caught short.
  • If you can’t remember how to change the time setting on your insulin pump or any other equipment, dig out the instructions now and bring them with you.
  • If you’re flying to or from your cruise, remember to pack your diabetes and any other medical supplies in your carry-on luggage. Remember that you must have pharmacy labels on prescription items; otherwise, you may be asked to place them in your checked baggage.
  • Whether or not you fly to your cruise departure, pack the clothing you will need on your first day aboard ship, as well as toiletries and sleepwear, in a carry-on bag in case your luggage is not delivered to your stateroom in a timely manner.
