“The Game Plan”

Have Type 2 diabetes? Like football? Then you may be interested in checking out “The Game Plan,” a new initiative created by the American College of Endocrinology with support from Merck.

The program is composed of four “goal lines”: “Huddle,” “Get in the Nutrition Zone,” “Get in the Game,” and “Check the Scoreboard.” Each segment corresponds to taking action in a certain area of your diabetes care, such as adding more activity into your day, and each one comes with a list of steps to take as you progress toward your goal.

The program is supported by a trio of “coaches”: Mike Golic, former NFL star and co-host of ESPN’s Mike & Mike in the Morning, who has Type 2 diabetes; clinical endocrinologist Farhad Zangeneh; and Samantha Heller, registered dietitian and exercise physiologist.

According to Mike Golic,

When I was first diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, I wasn’t sure how I would manage and adjust my lifestyle, but then I thought about it in terms of football, and started viewing my doctor as my coach. Together, we worked to develop my personal game plan to help tackle the disease in a way that worked for me. That’s why I am rooting for people with Type 2 diabetes to try the Blood Sugar Basics Game Plan — it provides an easy-to-understand approach to help manage the condition through a series of realistic ‘goal’-setting steps.
