Diabetes Self-Management Blog

If you have a child with Type 1 diabetes who’s interested in learning or refining his skills in the sport of BMX (bicycle motocross, in which bicycles are raced on a dirt track), then you’ll want to check out an upcoming camp organized by the sports group Riding on Insulin.

Riding on Insulin, which “empowers, activates, and connects the diabetes community through shared experience and action sports,” will be holding the camp on September 27, 2014, at Camrock Park in Cambridge, Wisconsin. The event is open to youth ages 7–17 with Type 1 diabetes, as well as their siblings and friends. Participants of all ability levels are welcome.

The registration fee is $140, and covers a day of track use, lunch, snacks throughout the day, all-day (8:30 AM to 4 PM) BMX instruction and supervision, a 4 PM presentation from the riders of Type 1 BMX, a Riding on Insulin t-shirt, and optional parent participation in a networking session while the children are on the track. Participants are responsible for their own dinner, lodging, helmets and bike (rentals can be requested on the registration form for $30), supervision for nonparticipating family members, and transportation to and from the track.

To learn more, or to register for the BMX camp, visit the Riding on Insulin website or call (406) 214-3266, extension 2.
